COUNTY REPORT
GLOUCESTERSHIRE 19 v 19 BRECONSHIRE
County secretary, Annie Davies was first up again. It was a disappointing start to the day with a 3-1 loses from both Annie and Michelle Edwards, new addition to Brecon this season. Next up was Mindi Saez. After a hard fight Mindi won 3-2, and won women of the match with a 13.16 average. Chris Sheen put on an impressive performance winning 3-0, and bringing the score to 2 a piece. Next to play was Dionne Llewellyn, who went 2-0 down, managed to win the third leg and unfortunately lost 3-1. Last for our ladies B was Dianne Caffery, who played tremendously. Unfortunately her opponent soon rose to the occasion, and after a great match Dianne lost 3-2. This meant Gloucester were 4-2 up.
First up for our men’s B was Iggy Morgan, who was drawn against a good player and lost 3-2. Jason Williams, who recently became a Dad (Congratulations!), was up next. After a good game he too unfortunately lost 3-0. Things didn’t look at this point, but we had it all to play for. Neil Bishop was up next. After a great performance, Neil managed to keep his cool and win 3-2. This brought the score to 2-1; we still had a lot of work to do. Up next was John Donaghey and after him was our super league secretary. Both players couldn’t settle down and both lost 3-0. Again it was looking bleak. Kevin Hyde was the next player to take to the stage. After the game went to 2 a piece, Kevin managed to stay calm and take the last leg. This brought new hope to Breconshire. Next up was john Evans, who is a familiar face and good to welcome back. After not being on the county stage for a while, John managed to stay level headed and brought us another point after winning 3-1. New addition to the Brecon squad for this season, Matthew Quinlan put on a tremendous performance. After going 1-0 down he picked up his game and won 3-1. To add to this he won with a 28.52 average, also bagging himself Man of the Match. The score was now 4-4, so we had fought hard and needed to maintain this winning streak. A familiar face in the B’s was up next, Richie Langlois, who also managed a win after a good fight. This meant we were in the lead for the first time this weekend. Peter Aleman was up next; unfortunately he lost with a 26.35 average. Unlucky Peter! Mervyn Matthews was up next. He couldn’t settle into his game which meant he lost 3-0, which also meant we were behind again. Up next Wayne Titcomb, after a bit of trouble with doubles Wayne managed to bag a 3-1 win, bringing the score to 6-6. Well done boys! The final score for Saturday was 10-8, which was a good result. It was all to play for on Sunday!
The ladies A were up for it with Jan Williams up first, she lost the first and second, she then pulled one back in the third but lost the next and conceded our first defeat 1-0 to Gloucester. Next up Sharon Hill who put up a great battle she won the first, lost the second then took the next two to win 3-1. One a piece, and up next Dannii Goffe. She won the first leg then lost the next three in a row. It was now 2-1 to Gloucester. Then Lady of the Match Natalie Evans took to the stage and hit a 20.42 average and had a 3-1 win. Now I was 2 all. Next was Kathy Goldup who lost 3-2 then Joy Toghill who lost with a 3-1 defeat and a 20.04 average. It ended 4-2 to Gloucester ladies.
Starting off the Men’s was Phillip Evans. Phill was expected to put on a show and get Breconshire started. He lost the first leg after missing his doubles. My heart sank slightly. However he started the next leg with a 140 and didn’t look back. He took the next three legs with 13, 12 and 16 darts. He also achieved a very respectable 31.56 average. Up next was Ashleigh Pascoe and the crowd was defiantly up for it after Phill Evans had lifted the mood. Ashleigh lost the first leg, and then missed tops in the second before taking 35 out. He started well in the third leg however he lost that one. He pulled back the fourth leg to get 2-2 with all to fight for. He then took the fifth and final leg to secure his first win in the A’s and his firm place in the squad. Next up, Andrew Rough. The game soon went to 1-1, however after some good scoring Andrew won 3-1, with a 24.80 averages, which could have been better but the doubles let him down a bit. It was now 3-0, well done, keep it up! Mark Layton took to the oche next, if Breconshire won this game it would be all level with everything to play for. Mark made it look easy and took his game with a straight 3-0 win. All level, all to play for! The following game saw Allan Williams play; he took the first two legs lost the third and took the fourth to put Breconshire in an excellent position and in the lead for the first time on the weekend. Mikey Lloyd was the next to throw. He struggled slightly with his doubles in the first leg before taking out double 5. He was commanding in his second leg taking out 82 in 2 darts and an outstanding third leg where he took 116 out. Well done Mike! WOW! 6-0 in the Men’s A so far. Game on! Next up was Steve Grumbach, who unfortunately lost the first leg after double trouble! He then fought back and won the second. Steve was very unlucky to lose the third and fourth legs; he missed bull for a 111 out. The game ended 3-1 to Gloucester. Next to take to the oche was Geraint Thomas, Welsh Squad hopeful. After trouble with scoring he lost the first leg but brought it to one a piece after winning the second and then went on to win the third, and after a great fourth leg he gained Breconshire another point. It was now 7-1 to Breconshire. Dave Knott was up next. After a slow start Dave won the first leg and impressive scoring from him gave him the second also. This was also the case for the third leg, which meant the game resulted in a 3-0 win for Dave and a 8-1 lead for the men’s A and also a 18-15 lead for Brecon overall. Next up was Phil Page. The game soon went to 1-1, but unfortunately ended 3-1, after an impressive performance from his opponent. Eifion Hughes was next to the stage, it was a very exciting game and both players performed. Unfortunately it went Gloucester’s way and resulted in a 3-1 loss for Eifion. The last game of the weekend brought Chris Hill to the oche. The game went to one a piece and both players fought for the win and the third leg went to Gloucester. Chris lost 3-1 and the weekend ended in an 18-18 draw with an 8-4 win for our men’s A.
